Sterling Vintage Photo Box/Album

I get to guest design for Dr Phil Scraps and I couldn’t be happier! The first scrapbook products I ever bought were from Close To My Heart and I have to say, the quality is hard to beat. I especially love the detail you get out of the stamps!

I got this great package of goodness from Dr Phil and I immediately was drawn to the My Creations Card Box. I was wanting to do something completely unique and so I made it into an album by cutting the back two sides so that it lies flat and then I glued a binder mechanism into it to hold photos, paper etc.
Instead of paper on the outside I used paint. I thought it would hold up better from being handled so much. I love vintage-y things, but I don’t think you always have to use browns to get the look. The silver does an excellent job of being timeless, classic and vintage. To add to this effect I rubbed corners of the box with some White Daisy ink. I love how the surface of the box soaked up the paint. It seems it is the perfect texture for anything you want to put on it! You could leave it white and stamp a few spots. You could paper it and rub dark brown inks on the corners for a worn look. The box is really versatile.
I also used some Gesso, and some spray ink spatters. These are really easy to do with the Exclusive Inks Re-Inkers. I mixed in some Sparkles in several colors and some silver glitter glue to add to the ink spatter effect. I finished up the outside with an Instant Memories stamp in Hollyhock ink and Key Moments stamps in Black ink on the outside. I used a pin from the Bling Assortment and a blue one from my stash. I added a few Petals Paper Flowers, a button from the Bling Assortment and some of the Brocade Assortment. Final touch is a sentiment cut from a border strip off of one of the La Belle Vie papers.
This is the lovely couple that I am gifting this box to!
For the inside I used papers from both the La Belle Vie and the Avonlea collections. I used border punches and a corner rounder to add interest and texture to the over all look of the album. I made it where some of the papers fold outward so that they are actually larger…
and even made some into pockets so that you can tuck little photos or journaling inside. Finish off with some stamping and embellishments! I left a lot of the pages blank because I actually wanted to gift this and thought the recipient would want to add some of her own photos to the mix.
One of my favorite newer products is the white inks. They are a whole different texture, more creamy like a paint rather than an ink. They do take a while to dry, but they look pretty awesome on darker papers!

Make sure you pick up your own My Creations Card Box and your favorite paper pack from Dr Phil Scraps so you can get your craft on! Abigail – http://chroniclesofmylife3.blogspot.com/
